HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

but i’m pretending that this lady is singing happy birthday to corey today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

i’ve been doing my best to get my house cleaned up so that i can sell this dump and buy an even smaller dump. there’s really just too much room here for just me, and with ray moving out, it’s gonna get danged expensive really fast. admittedly, i really like the location of this house, it’s close to my work, it’s close to chapel hill, close to city beverage….i just don’t know what i’m going to be able to find that will be like it.
there’s also boatloads of work that needs to be done on it. i’m not exactly world’s greatest homeowner. i let stuff pile up and pile up and pile up and then try to take it out in one foul swoop. the problem this time is that it’s going to take about 40 gazillion foul swoops to fell this bohemoth. over the past week, i’ve pretty much got my bathroom, my bedroom and (just today) the guest bathroom in a pretty liveable condition. showable to prospective buyers? doubtful, but MUCH closer than when i started.
if anyone knows someone who wants to buy my house, please let me know. i’ll be happy to talk with them.
corey and i went out last night for what seemed like the first time in a long time. we had dinner at patio loco, a really nice mexican restaurant (i.e. they have a menu that’s different from every other mexican restaurant). i had lentil gorditas that were delicious. corey got something with chicken in it.
after dinner we went to caffe driade and got a bottle of wine and played some games. it was just a really good night.
tonight we’re supposed to be hanging out with jennifer, who has made herself pretty scarce as of late…do a little catching up and get her away from the pet sitting.
just in time for the star wars opening, it’s anakin dynamite.
i’m not sure which is more disturbing, this story, or the cartoons that go with it. not safe for work…by any means.

there was a story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on monday outlining a court case in which wineries are being allowed to directly sell wine to retailers.
the interesting part of the article comes later, where it talks about a case being brought against the state of washington by costco, where it says that being forced to buy beer and wine from a distributor, and not from the brewery itself is against the law and is anti-competitive.
what makes this especially poingnant for north carolinians, lke me, is that there is a potential piece of legislation to raise the ABV for beer in our state, allowing more specialty and craft brews into the state. this new court case in washington may end up helping the law go through, because if big name breweries like budweiser, miller, and coors are allowed to directly sell to wal-mart, costco, and other large retail chains, and NOT have to go through a distributor/wholesaler, those wholesalers will need to find something to help make up for that lost revenue. specialty beer may be just the answer, since most smaller breweries don’t have the infrastructure to deal with thousands of individual accounts, and would probably rather deal with a wholesaler for their distribution.
