keeping the tradition
as has become tradition, this weeks trivia night (yes, we’ll be having it, even though City Bev is closed until 4 PM tomorrow…) will be dead or alive.

the drive in was shorter than expected…leaving me with a few minutes to listen to music. A few familiar faces around…and the waiting for logins, etc.
tommy sent along this story, which i can only reply with one word: gross.
so last weeks trivia wasn’t as hard as i had anticipted. boo on me. a few people have asked, and we will be doing trivia this week as well. no topic for round two as of yet, feel free to comment with suggestions.
the other hot topic has been what the hell i’m going to do with my life if i’m not working in coffee. and now the answer can be revealed: i’m going back to work for AT&T. basically, it’s going to be the same job that i was doing before i was laid off from there and went back to working for counter culture. it’s a pretty fun job solving networking anc computer problems all day, and the pay is a big leap up from counter culture. it was really tough leaving yesterday, a few tears were shed as my jump suit was retired up in the rafters of the green bean room. a nice gift from the roasting department was a few pounds of assorted coffees, all green, forcing me to have to figure out a way to roast them and stay up on my game. i’m definitely going to be missing the association of the counter culture peeps a lot, and i’ve promised to drop in when i can.
speaking of coffee, kate and i went to 3 cups yesterday to hang out with lydia and ermanno after the cupping. we had a nice almond croissant and a press of some papua new guinea red mountain. very nice coffee to be sure. afterwards was the always delicious sandwhich…kate had the OBLT, i had the grilled gruyere.
for dinner last night we went to spice street to meet up with some work peeps of kate’s while the food was mostly tasty (my fried green tomatoes were a tad greasy, and the sauce had too much mayonnaise…my pizza was great when it was placed on the table, but had turned soggy by the end. and don’t even get me started on te lack of vegetarian options…) the service was absolutely abysmal. the reservation was for 8, yet when we got there they told us that they didn’t have tables for 8. so they had to pull 2 tables up to the end, making the table pretty crowded. it took about 30 minutes to have our wine served, followed by a 20 minute wait afterwards just to take our food order. and even though we requested seperate checks, they were unable (or, in higher probablilty unwilling) to split it, forcing us to do the math. on top of this, they had the nerve to add a 20% gratuity to our bill. i can’t recommend this restaurant at all.
kate and i also exchanged our christmas gifts this weekend, since she’s going home later this week. i got seasons 1 through 3 of arrested development, which we started watching today, as well as two games: funny friends and thurn and taxis.
the rest of todywill be spent looking for some new clothes for work (i’ll be picking up some new khakis, since most of mine are pettty ragged looking, and maybe a shirt or two), eating at miranda’s and proably getting in a game of thurn and taxis later this afternoon while doing laundry.
tomorrow nights round two will be a little tough. and it will be about state capitals. you have been warned.
study up, minions.
it’s now all the buzz in the counter culture office, so i might as well fill the blogosphere in as well.
as of december 15th, i’ll no longer be an employee of counter culture coffee.
it was a fun ride.
tomorrow night’s round two will be an audio round. get there early for the good seats. and bring the big hair, because it’s all about 80’s rock. none of that sissy boy haircut 100, either.
my friend nancy will be offering up her goods (the pottery, gutterbrains…) this sunday at the durham craft market, along with other local artists at the Edison Johnson rec center in durham.
